Jewels made in amber with healing properties

Ambar jewelry from Poland arrived to Expoartesanías 2018. This gem of organic origin is recognized for its beauty and it is believed to have healing properties.

"By old texts we know that Greek healers used this gem to alleviate almost all diseases. Women used it to have smoother skin free of impurities. (...) It is believed that amber has positive effects on the thyroid glands and the immune system", explained Ursula Kosciukiewicz Perilla, owner of Boniita, the brand that sells jewelry in Colombia.

Amber is a fossilized tree resin that takes million years to form. The oldest testimonies of its discovery and carving date back to 8 to 4 thousand years before Christ, in Gdansk, in northern Poland.

Currently, more than two thousand companies in the European country sell amber jewelry carved and sculpted by Polish artisans. In 'Artesanías del Mundo' (pavilion 6, level 2) you can find necklaces, bracelets, earrings and even cufflinks made with this precious gem that has shades of white, black, brown, yellow and orange. Prices range from $ 30,000 to $5,000,000 Colombian pesos.

"The short necklaces that have close contact with the neck are believed to help with pains in this part of the body. The healing properties of amber come in contact with the skin and it’s under layers. Some doctors use it to practice as amber acid as a biostimulator with anti-inflammatory and anti-toxin properties ", said Ursula.

In addition, it is believed that amber has magical properties. For example, raw amber is used to get rid of negative energies and maintain balance.

This is a fair to share with the family, an encounter with ancestral, magical and modern pieces and cultures. Expoartesanías is the main scenario in Colombia to get to know the work of artisans and their products made of creativity.
